At Clinton West, leadership and staff members have been working to advance their culture and climate. The first change was revisiting the Clinton West Vision for the school and aligning it with the school's goals. The new Clinton West vision statement is: Clinton West is a unique community school that teaches the whole child in a safe environment to engage in and improve our ever-changing world.
"We came together as a faculty, and we are now calling ourselves #PRIDE nation, PRIDE also being an acronym," said Principal Stephanie Fox. "I am a Lion, and we are a PRIDE: Peaceful, Responsible, Inclusive, Disciplined, and Excellent."
Principal Fox also shared that the Clinton West team has been working around the building to bring PRIDE to life.
"We have a logo that greets our students and teachers as they enter their learning pods. We also have a step and repeat banner that we have used for pictures of our students as they returned to school," said Principal Fox.
In addition to decorating the steps to brighten the day, the Clinton West team has added sensory walks created by the parent involvement facilitator to each floor to help stimulate students' senses while transitioning through the halls.
During winter break, Clinton West had two special artists visit to begin adding life to the school's walls. Principal Fox's niece painted a stylized lion, and her stepmother painted lettering to go with the acronym of PRIDE. The school plans to continue adding as much as possible going forward.
In addition to the changes taking place inside the school building, Clinton West is also working to build relationships with community partners outside the building. To start the winter break, Mangiamo’s food truck provided 70 pans of baked ziti and garlic bread for Clinton West families and the Red Fork Fire Department.
Clinton West is working to have the school's PRIDE mirror the extraordinary westside community pride it sits in. For a first look, please view the slide show below.
